Sarah "Saartjie" Baartman also known as Hottentot Venus, was a woman who was exhibited throughout Europe showcasing what many Europeans thought to be unusual body parts. Although featured in the 19th century she was not a slave and when asked in Dutch court if she was aware of the situation, she stated she was not held under restraint and expected to receive half the profits.
