Soulja Boy can't rap. Lil Wayne is a genius. 90% of the hip-hop community would probably agree on this.
However, what are the facts? A KID, who just so happened to parlay every opportunity he was presented with into becoming a self-made multi-millionaire and then proceeded to play nana-nana-boo-boo by rubbing it in our faces(i.e turn my swag on)
If you recall when lil wayne was the same age he was apart of songs that weren't lyric but songs people enjoyed, just like soulja boy. If you dont believe me look at his verse from "Back That Azz Up"
"Now now now now now
After you back it up, then stop
Then wha-wha-what, drop drop it like it's hot
Now after you back it up, then stop
Now, wha-wha-wha-what drop it like it's hot
Now drop it like it's hot, drop drop it like it's hot
C-M-B make you drop it like it's hot
Drop it like it's hot, drop drop it like it's hot
Drop it like it's hot, drop drop it like it's hot"
Ha
Hmmmmm if Lil Wayne produced this and is now where he is maybe just maybe there is hope for Soulja Boy.
You almost made me respect Solja Boy.
ReplyDeleteI know I'm probably gonna get banished from the black community for saying this but Lil' Wayne is not the best rapper nor will I respect him or anyone who follows in his footsteps as ever being so. BUT I do respect him for being a groundbreaking popstar who uses the facade of being a rapper to draw in millions of fans of various races and socioeconomic backgrounds and all ages.
I like Wayne the same way I like Elvis Presley or the late MJ, he's just popular. That in itself makes his music easy to listen to. But will there another Wayne in Soulja Boy...? Doubt it, but you make a good point. Big ups to Soulja Boy for his hustle, but his music is corny, mainstream, ignorant, and wack and I can't bring my intellectual self to say otherwise.
